Nos Vos Celebramus

Head Master Lynne Mooney Teta ’86 invited the school’s most faithful supporters - members of the Fidelis Society (10+ years of consecutive giving); the 1635 Society (planned giving) and the Head Master’s Society (annual donors of $1,000 or more; $250 or more for recent alumni) - to join her for a Celebratory Brunch at BLS on Saturday, October 15. Following brunch, classmates Patrick Roche ’46 and the late Sheldon Seevak '46, along with family members, were recognized for their generous ongoing philanthropy as their names were installed on the lower frieze of the Assembly Hall. To all of the BLS faithful ... nos vos celebramus. We celebrate your support of alma mater and her alumni!

If you need an instrument, please send Paul Pitts '73, BLS arts program director, an e-mail by November 11, to reserve an instrument. All are welcome.

Gratiae: Our Thanks

Join us in thanking the more than 3,000 alumni and friends who invested in the BLSA and the students, educators, coaches and administrators of BLS in the last fiscal year (July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011). With gratitude for their gifts large and small, we thank them publicly for their support in Gratiae. Read about what your gift looks like, the efforts of classes who are honoring fallen classmates, Kevin Fidalgo '96 and Johnny Pimental '04, and philanthropists Richard Clarke '68 and Harry Jameson '50. Learn how the Latin School legacy inspires them today.

Interested alumni are encouraged to contact Michael Giordano ’84, director of the McCarthy Institute for Transition and Support, at (617) 635-8895.

BLS Earns National Blue Ribbon

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has named BLS a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School, one of 255 public schools so recognized nationally for success in closing the achievement gap.

New Life for Old Instruments?

If you have an old instrument laying around — that is not making any music — please consider donating it to the BLS music department. All instruments are welcome (even if they are old BLS instruments that were never returned, no questions asked). If you have a valuable instrument and would like to make a tax deductible donation, you have to get a written appraisal. We can help with that. Please contact Paul Pitts '73 for more information.

Need some inspiration? Check out recordings of the BLS Music Night program from last year at BLSARTS.org.

Points of Pride History Contest

Thank you to everyone who responded to our July question: When was the "Wolfpack" name adopted at BLS? No winners this time around. The name was adopted in 1970. Thanks to everyone who sent in a response!

Visit the Points of Pride Contest webpage to see the answers to past questions as well as all of our proud winners.

October's question:
In honor of the 125th anniversary of the Latin-English game this Thanksgiving ... take your best guess:
What is the win-loss-tie record for this rivalry, the oldest continuous Thanksgiving Day matchup in the U.S.?

History buffs should send responses — including name and class year — magna cum celeritate via e-mail. We’ll be happy to reward the first correct responder with a small BLS item! Note: Alumni may win only once during an academic year.
