Welcome to Our Newest Alumni

On June 11th, 383 students joined our ranks as alumni of Boston Latin School. During their four or six year enrollments, these talented students have benefitted from generous alumni and friend investment via the BLSA, including:

  • $1.5 million in academic support services;
  • $1.1 million to enhance athletic and extracurricular programs;
  • $1 million toward technology needs; and

  • $400,000 to support visual and performing arts.
Thank you for all you've done to support their achievements. We wish them much success in their post-BLS pursuits! Congratulations also to BLS Master William Carroll who was honored during graduation with the 2nd annual Gerald L. Gitner '62 Award for Teaching Excellence at BLS.

BLS Earns Gold

Boston Latin earned gold in U.S. News & World Report's 2012 Top High Schools in America ranking! BLS was ranked #62 nationally and #2 in New England. BLS is one of 500 schools nationally from nearly 22,000 public schools to earn the gold. Congratulations to the BLS leadership team, faculty, staff, students and all who support our amazing school!

BLS Scholars Spending Summer Abroad

Congratulations to Michaela Harrington '14 who was awarded an all expense paid summer study trip to Germany and to Kenechukwu Abejue Umeh '12 who is spending six weeks in Tajikstan learning Persian this summer! Read more.

Mission Possible

What do gifts that support the BLS/A missions look like? They look like a visiting artist series, freshman and junior varsity athletics, new equipment for science labs, student and alumni publications in addition to wellness resources to enhance our student's personal and academic success. Make your gift through the BLSA to make a difference today.

A: Presidential Finalists, a Ballerina and a Bee
Q: What are ... some of the items of interest you'll find in the news section on www.blsa.org. Visit our website to read more about our two Presidential Scholar Award finalists, learn about the "Purple Lady Prize for Passion and Proficiency in Geography" at the first annual BLS High School Geography Bee, get informed about a recent Sustainable Energy Award for BLS and meet our own Bolshoi ballerina.

1635 Society: Planning Ahead for BLS

Join more than 150 alumni and friends that have already included a gift to Latin School in their estate plans. There are a number of ways to do this. For instance, you can name the BLSA as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified plan. Please let us know if you have already made arrangements so we can thank you for your generosity and include you in the 1635 Society.  Visit our website for more information on the many ways you can honor the Latin School legacy.

Athletic Achievements

Several Wolfpack athletes earned Dual County League All-Star status with their stellar performances last spring and a few are also proudly representing alma mater at the Bay State Games this summer. Congratulations to the students and their coaches! Thank you to all of the alumni who support the Annual Fund each year. These student athletes and coaches depend on your support and achieve more thanks to you!

Matching Programs Amplify Your Gift

Do you work at Fidelity, State Street, Wells Fargo or one of the hundreds of other companies that match charitable contributions? Thanks to all of our alumni who reinvest in BLS through these programs effectively doubling or tripling their gifts. Check with your company today to find out if they sponsor matching gift programs.

Changing of the Guard

Welcome Michael T. Caljouw '84, new chair of the BLSA Board of Trustees. In addition, we welcome three members of the BLS community to new terms of service to alma mater through the board: Jennifer C. Borden '86, Pamela S. McKinney P'14 and Edward M. Sheehy '78. We extend our gratitude as well to outgoing chair Gerald F. Devlin '78. Thank you to all of these faithful alumni for their commitment to the alumni and students of Boston Latin School! Read more.

We Want Your News!

Don't leave all your updating to Facebook and Twitter! We want your up-to-date alumni news, notes and photos! Share your successes with classmates and the BLS community. Simply e-mail us and submit your news today.

Website Transition: Change to Log In

We will be unveiling a new way to check and update your alumni online profile information in the coming months. This means, beginning August 1, that the log in feature on www.blsa.org will experience a down time during the transition. Classnotes are still welcomed (and encouraged!) at blsa@blsa.org. Stay tuned on our Twitter account, blsalumni, Facebook and also www.blsa.org for more updates.

Points of Pride History Contest

Thank you to everyone who responded to our April question: Which classroom, pictured below, is a present day reminder of our rich history? Congratulations to Nicole Devlin '01 who came in first with the correct answer. It is classroom 323 that harkens back to another time in alma mater's rich history.

BLS antique classroom

Visit the Points of Pride Contest webpage to see the answers to past questions as well as all of our proud winners.

July's question:
As we enjoy the start of another Olympic season, we reflect on the connections between BLS and the Olympic spirit.
Who is our own BLS alum, an Olympic gold medalist, who wore the purple and white as a student athlete and in 1980 represented alma mater proudly on the U.S. hockey team wearing the red, white and blue?

Participants should send responses — including name and class year — magna cum celeritate via e-mail. We’ll be happy to reward the first correct responder with a small BLS item! Note: Alumni may win only once during an academic year.
